Discovery Pay is an integrated payments platform making payments smart, instant, and seamless.

You can instantly settle out-of-pocket medical expenses without the hassle of paperwork or queues, access Discovery Vitality's network of fitness partners on a pay-as-you-go basis with Vitality Pay as you Gym, and simply and quickly pay other Discovery clients using just their cellphone number without having to exchange banking details.

Healthcare payments have never been easier

If you're a Discovery Health Medical Scheme member you can integrate payments for out-of-pocket medical expenses with Health Pay from Discovery Pay. You can do this for your medical scheme benefits and other funding sources for healthcare, including gap cover, using your savings and credit facilities with Discovery Bank.

Health Pay allows you to instantly settle any out-of-pocket expenses at participating GPs, pharmacies, hospitals, pathologists, radiologists, and other healthcare providers directly from your linked Discovery Bank account.

Set up Health Pay by simply linking your Discovery Bank card or Ðiscovery Account with zero monthly fees to your Discovery Health Medical Scheme plan through the Discovery Bank app, and any future qualifying out-of-pocket expenses will automatically be settled using your available balance.

In participating doctor's practices, you can also automatically make payments by scanning the QR code on the invoice, using the Discovery app.

Expanding the Health Pay network
Keep track of your healthcare spend

You can get an overview of all your healthcare spend, including Health Pay, through an interactive dashboard in the Discovery app. The dashboard allows you to view your monthly healthcare expenses grouped by healthcare professional categories and where the expense was paid from.

 

How to set up and use Health Pay

  • Any adult beneficiary on Discovery Health Medical Scheme who is a primary accountholder of a qualifying Discovery Bank product can activate Health Pay.

  • Qualifying Discovery Bank products include the Ðiscovery Account, Discovery Bank Transaction Account, Discovery Bank Card Account, or Discovery Bank Suite. Only one account can be linked to Health Pay.
  • Qualifying out-of-pocket medical expenses for all members on the same Discovery Health Medical Scheme plan will be charged to the same linked Discovery Bank account.

  • Eligible Discovery Health Medical Scheme members can activate Health Pay on the Discovery Bank app.
  • Your linked account must have an available balance to make payments with Health Pay. Using the Discovery Bank app, you can set a maximum spend limit per Health Pay payment.

  • There is no additional cost for activating and using Health Pay. However, interest will be charged on Health Pay where the linked account has a negative balance per your credit agreement.

Vitality Pay

Access Discovery Vitality's network of fitness partners on a pay-as-you-go basis with Vitality Pay as you Gym.

Get fitness points automatically

With Vitality Pay as you Gym from Vitality Pay, your gym visit is automatically logged once you've entered the gym and will count towards your Vitality Active Rewards exercise goals.

Vitality Health members currently enjoy access to the richest gym benefit in the industry, with up to 75% savings on monthly fees at Virgin Active or Planet Fitness. We have introduced an alternative gym benefit that gives you the flexibility to train whenever you want, without the commitment of a long-term contract.

There's no need to even carry a gym membership card when training. Simply scan the QR code at the gym entrance using the Discovery app to pay for your workout from your linked Discovery Bank account, and start exercising with Vitality Pay as you Gym. The flexible way to get fit.

Access more than 170 facilities nationwide across the Virgin Active and Planet Fitness gym networks, and pay discounted rates, from as little as R75 per visit depending on the monthly retail rate of the club.

How to set up and use Vitality Pay

  • Any adult member on an eligible Vitality Health membership who is a primary accountholder of a qualifying Discovery Bank product can activate Vitality Pay.

  • Eligible Vitality Health memberships include Vitality Health Premium and Vitality Active. Qualifying Discovery Bank products include the Ðiscovery Account, Discovery Bank Transaction Account, Discovery Bank Card Account, or Discovery Bank Suite.
  • Vitality Pay is activated at an individual level for each adult on the policy and eligible Vitality Health members can activate Vitality Pay on the Discovery app.

  • Your linked account must have an available balance to make Vitality Pay.

  • There is no cost for activating and using Vitality Pay other than the gym visit fee. Interest will be charged on Vitality Pay where the linked account has a negative balance.
  • Members can use Vitality Pay as you Gym to access over 150 Virgin Active and Planet Fitness clubs, excluding Virgin Active Collection clubs.

  • This benefit is available to Vitality Health members who have not yet activated the Vitality Gym benefit with Virgin Active or Planet Fitness already.

Contact Payments

Pay other Discovery clients in your contact list using just their cellphone number.

The days of exchanging banking details are over. Now, with Contact Payments from Discovery Pay, you can make and receive secure payments quickly and easily with just a cellphone number. Contact Payments allows you to make payments to other Discovery clients in your phone contact list - we'll deposit the money into their existing South African bank account, no matter who they bank with.

Pay a contact with Contact Payments

First, you need to be a Discovery Bank client.

  1. Log in to the Discovery Bank app
  2. Tap Transact
  3. Tap Pay
  4. Search for a name or cellphone number that you've saved in your phone contact list
  5. Simply tap and enter the amount you'd like to pay.

How to set up and use Contact Payments

  • Any Discovery client with a Discovery online profile and a South African ID number can receive payments from Contact Payments - even if they don't have a Discovery Bank account. Primary accountholders of a qualifying Discovery Bank product can activate Discovery Pay to make Contact Payments.

  • Qualifying Discovery Bank products include the Ðiscovery Account, Discovery Bank Transaction Account, Discovery Bank Card Account, Discovery Bank Suite or Demand Savings Account.

  • Eligible Discovery clients can activate Discovery Pay on the Discovery Bank app to make and receive payments from Contact Payments. A Discovery client who receives a payment from Contact Payments but hasn't activated Discovery Pay will be asked for a once-off authorisation by SMS the first time they're paid.

  • Your linked Discovery Bank account must have available funds to make payments from Contact Payments to other Discovery clients.

There is no cost to receive payments, but you might be charged for each Contact payment you make depending on your Discovery Bank product. Interest will be charged on Contact Payments where the linked account has a negative balance.
