Mental health support for new mothers
In a significant step towards improving maternal healthcare, the Maternity Benefit has been enhanced. Mothers who have registered for this benefit now have access to up to two consultations with a counsellor or psychologist, either before or after the birth of their baby. This initiative aims to support the mental wellbeing of mothers during one of the most critical periods of their lives.
The updated Maternity Benefit recognises the importance of mental health in the overall wellbeing of both the mother and the baby. By offering these consultations, the programme ensures that mothers have the necessary support to navigate the emotional and psychological challenges that can arise during pregnancy and postpartum.
This improvement is part of a broader effort to provide comprehensive care for mothers and their babies. The Maternity Programme already includes a range of benefits such as antenatal consultations, post-natal check-ups, and essential medical devices. The addition of mental health support further strengthens the programme, making it more holistic and responsive to the needs of mothers.
