Baby on the way? - what you need to know about the LA Health Maternity Benefit

Preparing for a baby is an exciting and busy time – you have to plan for the birth, kit out the nursery, and buy baby essentials. While it may not be at the top of your list, it is also important to understand your benefits for pregnancy and giving birth and what you need to do as a LA Health member.

You get access to the Maternity Benefit when you:

• Get preauthorisation for the delivery
• Create a pregnancy profile on www.lahealth.co.za or
• Register your baby on the Scheme.

We pay for a specific range of necessary day-to-day care before the birth and give you and your newborn comprehensive cover during and after the birth. (whether in hospital or even at home).

By preauthorising your delivery, you also qualify to access a wealth of educational information and affordable, practical, safe and useful products.

If you are not registered on the Maternity Benefit, we will pay for medical expenses related to your pregnancy from your day-to-day benefits or Medical Savings Account if you have one.
