The number of LA Health members has been growing significantly since 2005 when Discovery Health became the Scheme’s administrator. We currently have more than 65 000 members, which is just one of the signs that the Scheme is doing well and can offer affordable, quality, personalised healthcare now and in the future.

Healthy membership growth

Employees in Local Government with medical cover consistently choose LA Health, which has given us a third of the market. We are the fastest growing scheme in the industry.

Financial strength

We have continued to grow our reserves and solvency levels. This means the Scheme spends less than it gets in and has a wide safety margin so the Scheme is sustainable. We have reserves available to pay unexpected claims and our solvency ratio is much higher than the law requires it to be. In other words, we can pay claims now and in future.

Affordable increases

The combination of younger people joining the Scheme and our risk-management techniques have allowed us to keep our contribution increases much lower than other medical schemes. We have kept our contribution increases for 2018 to a 4.0% average contribution increase on LA Active, LA Focus and LA KeyPlus. This gives us the edge in Local Government medical schemes.

Comprehensive cover

All members have access to comprehensive benefits and the best healthcare cover when they need it most. In 2017, we had a 96% in-hospital cover ratio, showing that members had cover for most hospital visits during this period.
