A tool to check your COVID-19 risk and unlock cover for COVID-19

Our COVID-19 risk assessment tool can help you and your family figure out if your symptoms mean you have COVID-19. If the tool shows you’re at risk of having COVID-19, you unlock additional cover for screening consultations with a doctor and tests if the doctor recommends them.

While the country is moving to lower lockdown alert levels for COVID-19, this does not mean that the pandemic is over. You need to keep paying attention to how you feel and speak to a doctor if you have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

How does the COVID-19 risk assessment tool work?

The tool asks you questions about your symptoms and who you’ve had contact with to find out if you could possibly have COVID-19. If your answers show that there’s cause for concern, the tool will tell you what to do next and allow you to make an appointment for an online consultation.

Where can I find the COVID-19 risk assessment tool?

You can either answer the questions online by logging in to our website or calling 0860 123 077 and following the voice prompts.

Who is at higher risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19?

Anyone can become seriously ill with COVID-19 even if they’re young and healthy. That’s why it’s important for everyone to know if they could possibly have COVID-19 and to keep washing their hands, wearing fabric face masks in public, and staying at least 1.5 metres away from other people.

However, certain people are more likely to become seriously ill if they get COVID-19. Global data shows that you are at risk of serious COVID-19 and complications if you:

  • Are 60 years or older
  • Have or have had cancer
  • Have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes and lung disease.

We also recommend that you take extra care if you are:

  • Pregnant
  • Immunocompromised (have lower resistance)
  • HIV positive
  • A transplant recipient.

If you are or live with someone who is at high risk, you should take extra precautions. Regularly use the COVID-19 risk assessment tool to keep you and your family safe and to get treatment as soon as possible if you do get COVID-19

The National Department of Health has launched the COVID-19 Alert SA app to help you stay safe. The COVID Alert SA app will be used for digital contact tracing using Bluetooth technology. The app will effectively enable users to update their COVID-19 statuses and alert each other anonymously if they encounter a positive case.

TFG Medical Aid Scheme encourages all its members to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus by downloading the app. For more on COVID-19, visit our dedicated COVID-19 information page.
