Cast your eye over your optometry benefits

Whether you just need a check-up with an optician, or you need new lenses or frames, optical expenses can be costly. As a Remedi member, you have the advantage of accessing optometry services, spectacles and contact lenses, at a preferred rate.

To make sure you get the best use of your optical benefits, you get better rates through Remedi's partnership with the Preferred Provider Negotiators (PPN) network.

Preferred Provider Negotiators charges cost-effective rates for clear lenses in return for better professional fees, without compromising on professional standards or the quality of the product. Of course, you can visit optometrists who are not part of PPN, but they may charge a higher rate, which means you might not have cover for the full price.

Your role

As an informed Remedi member, you play a crucial role in managing your optometry costs.

Here are a few steps you can take during your eye care journey:

  • Always confirm your available benefits with the PPN optometrist before you undergo any screenings or procedures or purchase any eye care items.
  • PPN can be reached as follows:
  • Make sure you understand the cost of items that will not be covered by Remedi and discuss with your optometrist if these services and/or materials are completely necessary or whether there may be more affordable alternatives
Items that may not be covered by Remedi:

It's important to note that some items prescribed by your optometrist may not be eligible for benefits. These items include:

  • Sunglasses or spectacles with a fixed tint exceeding 35%
  • Lens additions like tinting and/or luxury (branded) lens add-ons, that are not clinically essential
  • Benefits for lens additions are subject to pre-authorisation

It's important to note that Remedi provides sufficient cover in case you need glasses.

Keep an eye out for items that might require you to pay a part of the cost.

The following items may cause you to pay out of your own pocket:

  • Expensive branded frames
  • Unnecessary coatings on the lenses
  • Using a non-network provider

By following these guidelines, you can optimize your optometry benefits and make informed decisions about your eye care needs.
