The Remedi Day Surgery Network

The Remedi Medical Aid Scheme introduced a Day Surgery Network (DSN) available to all members on all benefit options effective 1 January 2024.

Facts

• The Remedi Day Surgery Network (DSN) includes day clinics and acute hospitals with dedicated, custom-designed day surgery units.
• The Day Surgery Network is one of several Remedi initiatives aimed at reducing the cost of care, driving down healthcare inflation and the associated rate of increase in medical scheme premiums. It aims to do this while maintaining or improving the quality of and access to care that Remedi members have.
• In line with international best practice, day surgery facilities are as safe as larger hospitals for a defined list of procedures.
• Research has revealed a rise in admission rates to day clinics (as opposed to acute hospitals) from 2015 to 2022 for DSN list procedures. This may be attributed to:
  • The greater convenience members experience at day clinics
  • Members generally experiencing lower co-payments when procedures are carried out at day clinics versus acute facilities
  • Increased access to day clinics due to the growth in facilities and the growth of providers performing surgeries at day facilities in recent years.

You can also contact us at 0860 116 116 and speak to one of our friendly consultants to find out where your nearest day clinic is situated, so you know where to go to avoid having to pay part of the cost yourself.
• Be aware that should you choose to access care outside of the Day Surgery Network and are located within an area where a DSN is available, and treatment is recommended to be received at the DSN, you may be responsible for paying an out-of-network deductible of R6,650 in 2024.
