Dental benefit

How do your benefits for tooth and mouth care work?

It's easy to forget about tooth care when you think about basic healthcare. While the enamel on your teeth might not be alive, your tooth and mouth health have a huge part to play in your overall health.

Basic tooth and mouth care

We pay for basic dentistry like check-ups, pulling teeth and tooth cleaning from the General Benefit Pool at the Scheme Rate until you reach your yearly limit. Once you reach your limit, payment can be made from the available funds in your Medical Savings Account.

If you need to have minor surgery done to your teeth or mouth, you first have to obtain approval and then visit a network provider to use your benefits for basic dentistry.

Advanced tooth and mouth care

We pay for advanced dentistry from the available money in your Medical Savings Account at the Scheme Rate until you reach the benefit limits.

The available money in your Medical Savings Account covers advanced dentistry such as bone implants (osseo-integrated implants), jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) as well as the cost of hospitalisation for these procedures. Inlays, crowns, bridges, mounted study models, and metal-based partial dentures are also part of advanced dentistry.

We also use the funds in your Medical Savings Account to pay for treatment by a periodontist or prosthodontist, and any related dental technician fees.
