UKZN MEDICAL SCHEME 2022 TRUSTEE ELECTION RESULTS

Thank you to all University of KwaZulu-Natal Medical Scheme members who participated in the 2022 Member Trustee Election. A record amount of 225 votes was received this year!

We are pleased to announce the results of the elections and will use this opportunity to confirm employer-appointed trustees at the same time. Member and employer trustee appointments was announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 18 August 2022.

The following membersⁱ , have been elected by our members to serve as member trustees of the Scheme:

• Ms Jane Taylor Knight
• Dr Lindiwe Kunene
• Ms Gill Manion
• Prof Hoosen Vawda

The following employer trusteesⁱⁱ were appointed by the University of KwaZulu-Natal:

• Mr Mark Bashe
• Prof Musa Mabandla

These trustees will serve on the Scheme Board of Trustees for a term of 5 years. Their appointments will stop at the conclusion of the term - the date of the 2027 AGM.

In line with the registered rules of the Scheme, the Board of Trustees appointed a member alternate trustee, taking into consideration the ranking of the member election voting results (the person with the 5th most votes received).

The alternate member trustee is:

• Prof Deshini Naidoo

The alternate employer trustee is:

• Dr Sipho Mkhize

The term of office for alternate trustees is 1 year, ending at the 2023 AGM.

The Board of Trustees also extends its sincere appreciation to our exiting Trustees, Mr Malusi Dlamini, Ms Charmaine Allison, Dr Bomi Cyril Nomlala, and Dr Saloshni Naidoo, whose term of office has come to an end at the conclusion of the 2022 AGM. Their contributions and the work they have done for the Scheme, Board of Trustees and its members is applauded.
