Make a difference – Do One Thing (DOT)

Braam Malherbe and Peter van Kets have taken on a challenge of rowing from Cape to Rio to raise awareness of a few social issues they are passionate about – and to also encourage the rest of the world to do their bit.

They are less than a month away from the starting line of a challenge that will see them travel over 6 700 kilometers and row a possible 2 400 000 strokes over 98 days at sea.

The combined experience of these two men makes them a perfect match to conquer this kind of challenge. A renowned environmentalist, Braam is also an adventurer, author of the bestselling “The Great Run”, honorary ranger, motivational speaker and a no-nonsense conservationist. Peter is also an adventurer, author and conservationist and highly sought after internationally as an inspirational business and keynote speaker.

As the men put it, as humans, “We have committed the single greatest crime against humanity by virtually exhausting the resources of a finite earth and seriously compromised our children’s future. The DOT challenge is our first step in helping to put this right”.

Their whole expedition can be followed on their website and is labelled as ‘DOT’, an abbreviation for ‘do one thing’, a theme which only serves to emphasise the idea of a start of a global movement. It’s an open invitation to the world to do one thing to make a difference – that if we all do one thing, it will make an undeniable difference to our world.

Their idea of doing one thing touches on many social issues. Their website also offers some ideas on their passions, from water-saving techniques, food wastage, conservation and energy.
