In every playing field, Discovery is there!
Our core purpose manifests wherever you see the Discovery brand. Here are just some of the exciting playing fields where Discovery’s purpose to make people healthier has touched people’s lives recently.
Giving people the Discovery experience
Making a mark in the retail space, our fourth Discovery Store will open in Menlyn by September 2016. Meanwhile, the Discovery Store Sea Point, Umhlanga and Stellenbosch have seen thousands of people visit. A first in South Africa, every store has skilled consultants who assist visitors to learn more about Discovery, to do their Vitality tests and checks, and to get an all-round experience of everything Discovery. Discovery Store Sea Point takes on average 2000 phone calls per month and they’ve assisted more than 10 000 Vitality clients to boost their health and Vitality points with Vitality assessments. When you’re in the area, pop in. Our Discovery Store consultants dazzle!
Peak performance on the way to the 2016 Olympics
We are a proud supporter of swimming champion, Chad le Clos. Chad is a peak performance partner and ambassador for Discovery Vitality, and we will be right there to support him in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. It was at the 2012 Olympic Games in London that he first beat swimming-legend Michael Phelps and took the gold in the 200m butterfly. Chad still aims to break the long-course record held by Phelps. Discovery Vitality is proud to bring Unbelievable: The Chad le Clos story to South Africa. The documentary is directed by four-time Olympic gold medalist and BBC broadcaster Sir Matthew Pinsent and begins in Durban in 2015 and follows Chad around the world as he competes against the next generation of brilliant swimmers, coping with new pressures after a shock upset in the pool, unreported personal struggles, and above all, pursuing his next goal - gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Stimulating active lifestyles and supporting sports
It’s been a winning year for sports. The beautiful game of soccer is easy for everyone to access and the fastest growing sport among girls in the United Kingdom. Following the success of our Liverpool FC Soccer Clinic for children at Wanderers in late 2015, we also welcomed the Liverpool Ladies Football Club to South Africa for a pre-season Discovery tour. They played two games in preparation for the Women’s Super League. By April, Discovery offered tickets to see an Arsenal FC game live in support of Discovery FieldofDreams before giving our third year of support for the Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town. This year, we also brought Duathlon to Cape Town and combined with the Triathlon hosted a weekend of multisport. In May, over 31 000 people enjoyed a fun filled day as they walked along the Durban promenade in the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk.
