Ron Rutland is an ordinary 40-year-old driven by a singular passion: To live the kind of adventure he’s read about and create a legacy.

For 28 months, rugby-mad Ron will cover around 43 000km on his bicycle in celebration of the things he sees as most important: health, vitality, mobility, and adventure. Ron’s extraordinary ride, supported by Discovery, has taken him from Cape Town through every country on mainland Africa to Egypt; then, time permitting, through the Middle East and Europe, to finish in London.

Ron’s journey is named Lettie’s Ride in honour of Nix “Lettie” Haynes, a close friend who fought, and sadly lost, a brave battle to cancer. This bicycle ride is dedicated to everyone fighting cancer with the same attitude as Lettie, says Ron – with positivity, hope, and humanity.
