Useful home and car tips

Winter is already in full force, but you and your employees can still make small changes to protect your homes and cars during the chilly season. Share some of these tips with your employees to help them save on electricity and car-related expenses.

Car care tips for the chilly months

Taking special care of one’s car in winter is very important. Here’s a list you can give your employees. They should:

  • Take their car to a mechanic to check out the battery, antifreeze level, thermostat heater, brakes and defroster;
  • Get the right type of oil;
  • Inspect their car’s lights, especially the rear lights;
  • Replace their car’s windscreen wiper blades;
  • Check their car’s tyre pressure and tread.

You can also encourage your employees to take their car for a Tiger Wheel & Tyre Annual MultiPoint check for only R95. If they are Discovery Insure clients, they will earn up to 150 DQ Points a month for 12 months.

Around the home

Making a home more energy-efficient during the remaining winter months is a great way for your employees to cut down on electricity bills and to make sure they retain as much heat as possible. They can:

  • Change their lights to energy-efficient bulbs. Lights can account for up to 20% of an electricity bill;
  • Seal and insulate against any draughts or leaks with caulk, spray foam and weatherstripping;
  • Remember to close their fireplace’s damper when they don’t have a fire going
  • Install a solar geyser.

24Fix does it with (solar) flare

A single electric geyser is responsible for 30% to 50% of monthly electricity costs. When your employees install a solar geyser, they start saving on electricity immediately and also instantly increase the value of their property.

Our partner, 24Fix, has introduced a special nationwide offer where your employees get a FREE Solar Home Light System (valued at R2 800) when they buy a ThermoSiphon solar geyser. Talk about a cost-efficient and energy-efficient winter! Your employees can look at 24Fix’s website http://www.24fix.co.za or call them on 0860 024 349.

By your employees taking care of their car and home, they can save a lot on electricity and keep the family warm and safe during the next few frosty weeks.
