Affordable private healthcare for employers: Discovery PrimaryCare

Discovery Health recognises the need for employers to provide quality and affordable healthcare to its low-income employees. By leveraging its healthcare delivery assets, Discovery Health developed PrimaryCare, employer-funded primary healthcare service model. PrimaryCare provides your organization with an affordable, sustainable solution to fund access to private, day-to-day healthcare services for low-income employees. 

Healthcare services available through Discovery PrimaryCare are:

• Unlimited GP visits in the PrimaryCare GP network
• Acute medicine dispensed by a PrimaryCare GP
• Chronic medicine prescribed by a PrimaryCare GP and dispensed by Clicks for five chronic conditions:
  1. High blood pressure
  2. High cholesterol
  3. Diabetes
  4. Asthma
  5. HIV
• Basic pathology (blood tests) through Lancet when referred by a PrimaryCare GP
• Basic radiology (x-rays) through the PrimaryCare Radiology network when referred by a PrimaryCare GP
• Emergency ambulance services through ER24

These PrimaryCare services are available for R199 a month for each employee, excluding VAT.

You have the option to add a range of supplementary services at an additional cost, including dentistry, optometry and wellness screenings.

Your employees will have access to the full range of services from day one, since Discovery PrimaryCare has no exclusions or waiting periods. They also don’t have to complete application forms to join or to obtain chronic medicine.

To qualify you need 10 employees on Discovery Health Medical Scheme (or a scheme administered by Discovery Health), and a minimum of 100 employees to enrol on PrimaryCare. Employers that do not currently provide access to Discovery Health Medical Scheme, but will in the future, and with a minimum of 100 employees to be enrolled on Discovery PrimaryCare, can also benefit.
