Healthcare providers on the network

Pharmacy Network

You can get medicine from a doctor or a pharmacy. You and your family are covered for different types of medication.

Glencore Medical Scheme network pharmacies have agreed to offer reduced dispensing fees to members. It is not compulsory that you have your medicine dispensed by a network pharmacy, but by doing so you will be able to reduce your co-payments (pay less from your own pocket).

If you wish to find out whether your pharmacist is on the network, you can log in on the website www.glencoremedicalscheme.co.za > Doctor Visits > Find a healthcare professional or you can contact Customer Services on 0860 00 21 41 or your HR department for assistance.

Remember that our list is updated every day, so it is important to check whether the provider you have used before is still on the list the next time you want to go to them.

GP Visits

Why should you visit a GP in our network?

We have negotiated payment agreements with certain GPs. If they agree, they become part of our GP Network. This helps you because when you visit a GP in our network, you know you have full cover. This is because these GPs charge the Scheme Rate, so you don’t have to pay anything yourself, as long as you are within your consultations and visits limit.

You don’t have to visit a network GP, but GPs who are not part of our network can charge more than we pay. If they do not charge our rate, you have to pay the difference between what we pay and what the GP charges yourself. In other words, using a network GP can save you money.

It’s easy to find out if we pay for your GP in full or not. There are three ways of checking:

Optometry

Eat right to protect your sight!’ Here’s how

Good nutrition really is key to good vision. Carrots are good for your eyes because they are rich in beta-carotene and vitamin A. Vitamin A deficiencies are a leading cause of cataracts and blindness in the developing world.

Pack your plate with veggies and oily fish

Lutein is a carotenoid essential in keeping your eyes healthy, and spinach and kale top the list of lutein-rich foods. These are followed by other dark greens like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. In fact, eating more dark, leafy vegetables is probably the single change you can make to your diet to most improve your sight.

There is also evidence that proves eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids – like salmon and tuna improves eye health. All these foods offer your organs the nutrients they need to function well, so add veggies and oily fish to meals as much as possible. However, if you are concerned about your vision in any way, it is best to get an expert opinion, as your eyes will only deteriorate with strain.

To find an Optometrist in the network log in to www.glencoremedicalscheme.co.za under the DOCTOR VISITS tab, go to Find a healthcare professional. You will be able to find an optometrist on the network and in your area.

Dentistry

Bite into better health

It’s easy to forget about oral and dental health until you have a toothache or a cavity. Having a dental check-up is just as important for your general health as going for your yearly medical check-up. There are links between gum disease and other conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing are the foundation of good oral health. But just like you have to service your car once a year, you should also have a dentist check your teeth at least once a year. This can help identify problems early before they become painful, expensive or both.

Your cover for dental and oral care

Before going for dental treatment in hospital, you need to contact Customer Services on 0860 00 21 41 to ask for authorisation and also to confirm that you have benefits available and that the procedure will be covered.

To find a dentist in the network log in to www.glencoremedicalscheme.co.za under the DOCTOR VISITS tab, go to Find a healthcare professional. You will be able to find a dentist on the network and in your area.
